What a lovely day painting at Lake Jacomo in my favorite cove. There were lots of fishermen and swimmers enjoying the day also. Several stopped by to see the progression of the painting. One budding artist stayed to watch for quite some time-it had never occured to him you could paint outside. It's fun to meet young people and put new ideas forth for them to try. Painted from 1PM to 5PM temp around 87 degrees

On June 6th, the annual Vaile Mansion Strawberry Festival kicks off. The event lasts for one day from 9AM to 4PM at the Vaile Mansion, 1500 N Liberty Street, Independence, Mo. 64050.
Once again this year the IAA will be plein aire painting during the event. We will also have a tent set up with additional wonderful art by members for sale. We will be in space 49 again this year. I will also have a tent in space 50 where the plein aire pieces will be along with some of my art.
We all had such a wonderful time last year-hope you can make it out for all the fun. Just look for the artists who will be creating paintings right before your eyes. These paintings will be for sale during this event.
In addition to our painters, there will be antiques and crafts, music and entertainment, vintage cars, food, ice cream, beverages and a children's corner. Admission to the festival grounds is free.
The Vaile Mansion will be open for tours-there is an admission charge for the tours.
Park at the William Chrisman High School at Noland Road & 24 Hwy and ride the free shuttle bus to the Festival.
Plein Aire painting is a great experience for not only the artists but for the spectators as well. Hope to see you there!!!!!

Boy, did we have a ball in Augusta, Mo. The plein aire trip was amazing. The weather for the most part cooperated except for a few rainy days. Didn't stop us though, we just put up the umbrella and painted on!
It was wonderful having my daughter-in-law along. She is a new artist who paints in watercolors. This was her first plein aire event and it was quite fun to see her reaction to the weather, bugs, snakes, and terrain. Watching her was actually an education in and of itself. She also provided the comic relief when-as we were painting all her stuff went into Femme Osage creek-luckily she did not follow. She also found out what true plein aire means when we climbed down an embankment to spend the day painting a a wonderful creek just outside of Definance. The carry down was okay but after painting there for four/five hours, the carry back up proved a little more difficult.
We stayed in a wonderfully restored 1860's cabin where the grounds were an inspiration for paintings everywhere you turned.
One of the things I learned myself, is just exactly how little I needed to haul around to make a painting. We have already started our list for next years event and trust me WE WILL BE CARRYING LESS!
I'll write more about the trip itself and the materials used in the next blog as soon as I get some of the paintings loaded up on the website.
Happy Painitng!
