This is Chrissy's painting in progress. This was taken from a photo of a trip she took to California. She loved the way the waves splash onto the rocks and catch the changing light patterns. This was also done with the underpainting technique.
Can't wait to see them all finished. They are doing a great job.

Here is Gina's painting in progress. This is from a photo she took on one of her many trips to the islands. This is of a rock formation in which their guide took the boat into the bat cave, whacked the boat and thousands of bats flew out over their heads. She loves the scene and the emotions of the day-not sure about the bats.
I will post her finished painting soon.

Well, here are three of my students and what they are working on currently in class. This class assisnment was a painting done on an underpainting using pastel and turpenoid. As you can see, they are moving right along. It is so exciting to see them work and their concepts and plans become action and then a painting. We will post their finished paintings as soon as they are completed. I am so honored to be a part of their journey thru art. In this blog, I am featuring Victoria's paining. I will post Chrissy's and Gina's too.

We have been busy in class. My students are doing wonderful things. All are relatively new to pastels as a medium but are creating lovely paintings. I have taken some pictures of their art in progress and when they get them completed will post them under a new catagory on my main page called "Student Paintings". Wait till you see what lovely things they are producing!!!! The students each have their own style and creativity-it makes my job as a teacher extremely rewarding. Just to be in on the creative process as each takes their seperate path toward their own style is amazing. I truly believe that there is an artist in all of us just waiting to come out to play.

 New oil painting study
Well, here it is-the second oil painting. This little study was done from a photograph that I took while painting in the Lendonwood Gardens in Grove, Ok. This garden is a wonderful little gem tucked away on the road to HarBer Village. It is truly a treasure! If you are ever down that way be sure to stop in-it is well worth the trip. I have visited and painted there every time I go to Grove. The gardens have something for every season. It abounds with azaleas, maples, daylilies-and on and on. The charm of the garden is the way the paths are laid out. As you meander thru the paths, you come on lovely spots and vignettes at every turn. The stream that wanders thru starts at a small waterfall and wanders thru to the pond. It is the absolutely most calming garden I have ever been in -and I have been in quite a few. This painting appears in my "Just for Fun" collection.
I am really enjoying painting in oils again-don't panic-I haven't abandoned my pastels, they are still my first love.
Hope you enjoy this new painting endeavor-thanks for looking!

The Grateful Hearts Project got a wonderful gift today. A local talk radio program 101 the Fox in Kansas City linked to our website from theirs. We are hoping that this helps us reach more families of fallen soldiers to offer them portraits of their loved ones. These portratis are done completely free of any charges to the families to honor their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their loved one. As an artist, it is such a wonderful way to give back. Our own son was critically injured but survived his injuries in 2004. It has caused us both pride and heartache seeing him go through his daily struggles due to those injuries. We are constantly amazed at the resilence of our soldiers and their families in the face of such difficulties. To see the link from The fox, go to www.kcfx.com click on the Moffit and Frankie header and scroll down to Grateful Hearts Project hit the "click here" and it will take you right to the website page for this project.
Thanks for looking,
